7th TOPO-EUROPE Workshop
October 6-9, 2011, Davos, Switzerland
A forum investigating the cause and creation of the topography of Europe
PhD position
The Earth Surface Dynamic group has currently several open PhD positions:
Interaction between tectonics and surface processes in the Zagros Mountains
Erosion rates through time with cosmogenic nuclides
Quantifying patterns and timing of glacial erosion into bedrock in the Alps
Welcome to the Earth Surface Dynamics group. We are part of the Geological Institute at the Department of Earth Science (D-ERDW). Our group conducts research on physical processes at, and
near, the Earths surface. Our research is particularly focused on how
climatic and erosional processes affect the structure, evolution and
sediment transport in mountain belts. A strong emphasis is brought on
numerical models, but also includes field experiments and applications
of provenance studies, low-temperature thermochronology, cosmogenic and luminescence
dating.
Problems of interest include the mechanics of
mountain-building, the role of erosion on mountain belt structure,
tectonic controls on the formation of sedimentary basins, landscape
evolution by fluvial and glacial erosion processes and the impact of
climate
change on erosion and sediment transport.
